It is also possible that, to make his lies more plausible, the Fascist government itself or its German associates will drop bombs in the center of Rome, and perhaps even on the Vatican City. You are an intelligent people. So you will understand that we have no interest in wasting our efforts on ancient plaques and monuments, the destruction of which does not serve our purpose. We have already declared and we repeat now that we aim only at military objectives, communications, war industries, military installations and airports, which are used in the exclusive interest of the Germans. These targets have been carefully chosen and the pilots have been specially trained in precision bombing. It is not possible, however, while aiming for military objectives, to avoid some destruction of civilian homes. We intend to reduce these destructions as much as possible. As our attacks will be carried out in broad daylight you can judge for yourself that what we have told you is true. You can therefore conclude that if any bomb falls far from military targets it will be dropped by the Axis in its determined effort to deceive your faith.
